In 2014 I had a toddler + full time job + a daily Manhattan commute. I lacked the time + bandwidth + caffeine required to keep my home clean. I was a zombie on the PATH train at both 8am and 8pm.
My housekeeping requirements were pretty basic: clean enough for Mom to visit without killing me, lol!
I hired a company who brought filthy mops and towels into my home. I hired a guy who brought toxic chemicals that scratched the surfaces of my home. I hired a gal who showed up occasionally – like as long as Mercury wasn’t in Retrograde.
It was around the 4th of July, Independence Day, when – sweating, seatless and somewhere between Grove and 33rd Streets – I was struck by Lady Liberty’s plea: “Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breath free.” I had cleaned my way through college to pay the rent – I could do it again, right? Only this time I’d focus on amazing cleaning and superior customer service.
As Maid in JC welcomes new clients, we must pay tribute to to our inspiration: So long, Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. I’ve reached my final destination on the shores of Lady Liberty.
